Anyone looking for new D’Angelo news has been presented with a slow and steady trickle up to this point – however, close on the heels of his 3 upcoming European live shows (his first in nearly a decade) this expansive, incredibly soulful 2003/4-era reinterpolation of (of all things) Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” has surfaced. Most likely a demo from the tentatively-titled James River, but this is a beautiful, rejuvenating piece of music be it complete or not. I have a feeling this might be semi-wiped off the internets soon like the “1000 Deaths” leak was in 2010, but feel free to enjoy it while it’s here, and let’s most certainly hope D drops James River sometime before the apocalypse. If it’s anything like this, it will be more than worth the wait.
